SUMMARY:Barn Tour Opening Reception & Lecture
DESCRIPTION:Bucks County Audubon Society at Honey Hollow (BCAS) is excited to announce that the Art of the Barn Tour is coming up the weekend of September 30th and October 1st ! To help get you excited about the tour and to help educate about the importance and uniqueness of the diverse barns that will be featured this year\, BCAS will be hosting an Opening Reception and Lecture at our Visitor Center\, located at 2877 Creamery Rd.\, New Hope PA\, 18938 on September 29th\, at 6:30pm. \nWe are so excited to have Michael Cuba as our speaker. Originally from Bucks County\, Michael moved to Vermont in the mid 90’s where\, as a college student\, he first began to hone his skills in traditional woodworking. His career in restoration timber framing began while working at the Institute for Social Ecology with Seth Kelley.  After a few years in the field\, they founded Knobb Hill Joinery\, focusing on preservation and restoration timber framing while occasionally designing and cutting new structures. He has spent a great deal of time documenting historic buildings\, teaching classes\, and demonstrating traditional timber framing methods.  After moving back to the Mid-Atlantic\, he joined the team at the New Jersey Barn Company.  Recently\, Michael started Transom\, a small historic preservation consulting company offering dendrochronology coring services\, historic documentation and research.  Michael is currently an officer of the board of the Timber Framers Guild\, a national\, educational organization.  He is also the administrator of the Traditional Timber Framing Research and Advisory Group and contributor to both Scantlings newsletter and TIMBER FRAMING\, the journal of the Timber Framers Guild. \nDistilled: The Evolution of Timber Joinery in South-eastern Pennsylvania : This presentation will explore the migration of early and pre-industrial timber framing techniques from Europe to the Colonies.  Using photos and drawings we will examine European architectural forms and their evolution in the new world.  Bucks County represents a unique collision of cultural ideals and subsequent blending of building technologies that has influenced the development of the American landscape as early settlers moved west. \nTo better understand what makes the architectural landscape of Bucks and other south-eastern counties so distinctive\, we will look not just to Europe\, but to the colonial settlements to the north and south.  In spite of a seemingly close proximity\, we will see how the forms of New England\, New York and New Jersey bear little resemblance to those with which we are so familiar here. \nArt of the Barn Tour tickets here!

SUMMARY:Advocacy for a Cleaner Earth Series
DESCRIPTION:Are you passionate about saving the environment and want to do something more to advocate for it? Learn about advocacy regarding different environmental topics (such as air\, water\, gas\, etc…) from professionals during this season’s lecture series at Delaware Valley University! \nThis month our speaker will be Maya van Rossum of the Delaware Riverkeeper Network! She will be talking about pipelines and their impact on clean water. \nMaya K. van Rossum is the Delaware Riverkeeper and leader for the Delaware Riverkeeper Network.  The role of the Delaware Riverkeeper is to give the Delaware River\, and the communities that depend upon it and appreciate it\, a voice at every decisionmaking table that could provide help or do harm.  Delaware Riverkeeper Network has its main office in Bristol\, PA and can be found on the web at www.delawareriverkeeper.org.  van Rossum\, who is skilled as an environmental attorney\, strategist\, community organizer\, facilitator\, coalition builder and manager\, has led DRN for over 20 years. As Delaware Riverkeeper\, she organizes concerned citizens\, testifies before state and national governing bodies\, oversees DRN litigation\, and watches over the Delaware River and all of its tributary streams. Through appointments by governors and agency heads\, she has played a role in shaping water quality\, quantity and habitat policies and regulation in the Delaware River watershed for nearly two decades. \nThis program is free and open to the public! We hope to see you and a friend there!

SUMMARY:National Audubon Photo Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:The National Audubon has selected contest winners from over 7\,000 entries—submitted from all 50 states\, DC\, and Canada—the winning photos were published in the May-June 2016 issue of Audubon magazine. These photos are now being sent from Audubon Chapter to Chapter to be on display for a few weeks. BCAS is honored to be able to display these award winning photographs. \nHalf of the species in the winning and honored photos are birds identified as threatened or endangered by climate change in Audubon’s Birds and Climate Change Report \, which shows that 314 bird species in North America face an uncertain future due to shifting climatic suitability. To learn more about the birds\, come out to the photo exhibit and read more at climate.audubon.org! \n
