Drop off your child at 9am and pick them back up at 3pm after a fun-filled day of nature exploration and discovery! Remember\, you can register for one\, or all of the days – it’s up to you! \nEach day during March Spring Break features unique games\, hikes\, science experiments\, and crafts that all tie in to the week’s theme of habitats! \nMarch 26: Pond Dipping\nWhat types of animals live in the Audubon Pond? Let’s get our Pond nets and find out! (Water shoes recommended) \nMarch 27: Rotten Log\nWhat creepy crawlies lurk under the rotten logs that lie on the forest floor? Let’s roll some of them over and check them out! \nMarch 28: Creek Critters\nHow do animals not get swept away by the flowing water of our creek? We’ll take our stream nets and go flip over some rocks! (Water shoes needed) \nMarch 29: Fairy Gardens\nWhile we may not see them\, we like to think that our forest on the hill is home to fairies! Let’s use our engineering skills to build them beautiful homes for them to move in to and see if we find any toads or ants using them as well! \nMarch 30: Muddy Marsh\nSquish\, squish\, squish… The marsh is muddy! Why is a marsh important\, what does it do\, and what lives there? These are some of the questions that we’ll answer through out the day. DESCRIPTION:Join BCAS and other environmental professionals to learn more about our environment and what personal actions we can do to help make the world a better place! \nThis month’s topic is “Saving Our Birds: What’s Killing Our Birds and What You Can Do About It.” presented by Phil Witmer. \nPhil Witmer is an avid birder and conservationist with over 30 years birding experience. He is a past board member of Bucks County Audubon Society and current president of the Delaware Valley Ornithological Club\, one of the oldest birding clubs in the country. He has consulted with Audubon PA and is active in their local BirdTown initiatives. He volunteers banding Northern Saw-whet owls and has attended Powdermill Preserve’s trainings on passerine banding. While certainly not an expert on bird identification\, he has devoted much time to the conservation of birds\, the forces driving their decline and what we need to do to save them. He leads walks at Bucks County Audubon Society and lectures on a variety of related topics. \nThis free event will take place at Delaware Valley University. Parking is off of the New Britain Rd. Entrance to the school.

Learn about advocacy (on a federal AND personal level) regarding different environmental topics (such as climate change\, wildlife conservation\, habitat protection\, etc…) from professionals during this season’s lecture series at Delaware Valley University! \nThis month’s presentation is sponsored with the Doylestown Township’s Environmental Advisory Council and will be presented by Dr. Daniel Duran who will be talking about “Spray and Pray: Misguided Faith in Pesticides Isn’t the Answer to Our Mosquito and Tick Problems.” \nDr. Duran is an Associate Teaching Professor at Drexel and an adjunct member at the Barnes Foundation Arboretum School. He is also president and co-founder of a the non-profit\, Mid-Atlantic Native & Threatened Insect Zoo (MANTIZ). He received a BS in Environmental Science and a Ph.D. in Evolution and Ecology in 2010. He has also worked at the Natural History museum in London and the Simthsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama. Currently\, he teaches courses about topics pertaining to ecology\, evolution\, insects\, and plants. Dr. Duran is also the co-author of the book\, “A Field Guide to the Tiger Beetles of the United States and Canada\, 2nd Edition.” \nThis program is free and open to the public! It’s fun and easy and helps scientists understand what’s going on with our birds!\n\nThe data collected by observers over the past century allow Audubon researchers\, conservation biologists\, wildlife agencies and other interested individuals to study the long-term health and status of bird populations across North America. When combined with other surveys such as the Breeding Bird Survey\, it provides a picture of how the continent’s bird populations have changed in time and space over the past hundred years.\n\nThe long term perspective is vital for conservationists. All work is for sale with 25% of the proceeds going back to support the high-quality environmental education programs here at Bucks County Audubon Society. \nThe exhibit is open during normal business hours (Mon-Fri\, 10am-4pm)\, with occasional weekend hours.
