SUMMARY:Christmas Bird Count
DESCRIPTION:Join Bucks County Audubon Society on January 1st\, 2017 to take part in the tradition of the National Audubon Society’s Christmas Bird Count! Data compiled in New Hope will record every individual bird species seen in a specified area\, contributing to a vast citizen science network that continues a tradition stretching back more than 100 years.  \nBirders of all ages are welcome to contribute to this fun\, nationwide citizen science project\, which provides ornithologists with a crucial snapshot of our native bird populations during the winter. Each individual count is performed in a count circle with a diameter of 15 miles. At least ten volunteers\, including a compiler to coordinate the process\, count in each circle. The volunteers break up into small parties and follow assigned routes\, which change little from year to year\, counting every bird. In most circles\, some people also watch feeders instead of following routes. As we have scheduled our count for New Year’s Day\, this is a great opportunity to take a “First Day Hike!” Start the New Year outside and on the right foot as you join us for this great event! \nTo sign up for a count\, please visit/contact Diane Smith at dianesmith@bcas.org or call 215-297-5880!

SUMMARY:Nurture Your Inner Naturalist: Project Snow Storm
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that Snowy Owls are venturing further and further south than they normally do? Scientists are trying to learn more about why this is and be able to discover more about Snowy Owl behavior. This November’s Nurture Your Inner Naturalist Series\, put on by Bucks County Audubon Society at Honey Hollow\, will take place on November 20th at 2:00 pm at Delaware Valley University in the Life Science Building. \nThis month’s topic is “Project Snow Storm” and will shed some light on the current issues with Snowy Owls. Learn more about owls beforehand during our interactive Owl Study! Join us to hear this great presentation by Scott Weidensaul\, naturalist and author of “Peterson Reference Guide to Owls of North America and the Caribbean.” \nThe program is provided free of change and supports the mission of high-quality environmental education for all ages. Ample parking is provided off of the New Britain Rd. Entrance. \nWant to get to know the presenter prior to the talk and what motivates and inspires him? Check out this interview with Scott Weidensaul!
