DESCRIPTION:We get it; it’s hard when your child has off of school when you don’t! That’s why we created these “School Holiday Camps”. Drop off your child at 9am and pick them back up at 3pm after a fun-filled day of nature exploration and discovery! Each day features unique games\, hikes\, science experiments\, and crafts that all tie in to the day’s theme! You may register day by day\, or for the whole week.  \nProgram Details\nAges:  4-10\nTime:  9:00am -3:00pm\nMembers: $45/day\, Non-members: $60/day\nMembers: $225/week\, Non-members: $300/week  \n15th– TGIS (Thank Goodness it’s Spring!): The Science behind the Season. We’ll discuss the equinox\, why we have time change\, and all the science behind spring. \n16th– Discovering Birds: Spend a day studying our fine feathered friends. We’ll learn all about birds\, go on a birdwatching hike\, and have plenty of fun activities involving birds. \n17th – A Day in Fairy Hollow: Want to build a fairy house\, or maybe a toad home\, or how about a miniature wilderness outpost? Bring your creativity as we build houses for our outdoor friends. \n18th – Exploring Watersheds: Join us as we investigate the many waterways of Honey Hollow. \n19th– What’s Buggin’ You?: Spring is returning and so are many of Honey Hollow’s summertime residents. DESCRIPTION:Join BCAS Naturalists as we take part in another Citizen Science program\, searching for birds around our property! A brief presentation will be followed by a birding hike. \nVolunteers from around the world are invited to count the birds they see for at least 15 minutes on one or more days of the count\, then enter their checklists at birdcount.org. Anyone with internet access can participate\, no matter what their skill level—it’s a great family activity\, too. \nIn the United States and Canada\, 2019 bird lists are more likely to include sightings of winter finches and grosbeaks that are moving farther south than usual in what’s called an “irruption.” This type of movement is often sparked by poor cone\, seed\, and berry crops in parts of Canada. \n“This year is a very exciting one for backyard birders in the East\, headlined by the largest Evening Grosbeak movement in at least two decades\,” says the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Marshall Iliff\, a leader of the eBird program. “From Atlantic Canada to North Carolina\, these colorful feeder visitors have been making a splash.” \nRegistration available here.

DESCRIPTION:In the New Year\, we are going to keep working towards a better climate. We have witnessed several threats to our planet in the past year alone\, including rollbacks of environmental protections proposed by the EPA and strong warnings from the global scientific community. We have knowledge of the problem\, and what we need going forward is the political will for change to save our climate. Let us open a line of communication with our  (newly) elected officials and communities to encourage them to make climate action as a priority this year. Writing a letter to a decision maker or a short opinion piece to your local newspaper about why climate change is your priority takes a very short time and has a lasting impact. Join us on January 22nd to write letters to Congresspeople\, Senators\, and our local news outlets to get the word out and get the conversation started. SUMMARY:Climate Watch: Citizen Science Training
DESCRIPTION:Beginning this winter\, volunteers for Bucks Audubon’s Climate Watch will be visiting their favorite birding spots twice a year\, looking for bluebirds and nuthatches. However\, these familiar species are more than just a joy to behold––both of them can teach scientists how birds are coping with our warming world. By comparing volunteers’ observations of bluebirds and nuthatches\, Climate Watch will test the accuracy of Audubon’s predictions and determine how birds are responding to a changing climate. \nAt this event\, volunteers will learn all the ins-and-outs of Climate Watch\, including how to choose survey points\, conduct surveys in the field\, and submit their final results to the Climate Watch team. The presentation will also explain how Climate Watch is already shedding light on the ways some of our most familiar birds are responding to climate change. Volunteers will also have the chance to participate in a trial-run of a survey\, and the opportunity to discuss their assignment for the count with one of Bucks Audubon’s Climate Watch coordinators. \nWant to be a part of this training day so that you can participate in the Climate watch project? Through the stories of workers and entrepreneurs in the U.S. and China\, Catching the Sun captures the global race to lead the clean energy future. Over the course of a solar jobs training program\, Catching the Sun follows the hope and heartbreak of unemployed American workers seeking jobs in the solar industry.  With countries like China investing in innovative technologies and capitalizing on this trillion-dollar opportunity\, Catching the Sun tells the story of the global energy transition from the perspective of workers and entrepreneurs building solutions to income inequality and climate change with their own hands. When not at work\, Emily enjoys time with family and friends\, reading anything from Shakespeare to gardening manuals\, and getting outside. Emily’s current projects include engaging Audubon chapters and their surrounding communities in watershed-related advocacy. She is also working toward the creation of a coalition for Delaware Watershed craft breweries\, and involving members of the Lenni-Lenape nation more intimately in the watershed conservation conversation.
